Brand Overview: Be Green Toner & Ink, LLC (Irmo, SC)
Distributor of Eco-friendly New & Recycled Printer Cartridges
The lion's share of the projects I do come on referral. Occasionally, though, I get to work with people I already know. Such was the case in 2012, when a friend of mine – who had relocated to South Carolina – called me and asked for my help branding his new enterprise. He had a name, he had a business plan, he had start-up capital. He had researched the market for his service (subscription delivery of ink and toner cartridges) and identified his potential client base. In other words, he'd done his homework, and he was ready to take action. I created the logo, helped him write a company tagline, and set him up with a basic identity package (cards, envelopes, letterhead).
Two notable challenges on this project...
Color Management – Spot-color printing & Pantone matching didn't fit the budget, and green is a particularly difficult color to match across different profiles. The particular shade of green the client chose didn't translate well from RGB to CMYK profiles. The solution was to use two completely different sets of color values: one for the web and one for print applications.
Print Sourcing/Flexibility – The original promotional mailer I designed was intended to go to a commercial print & mail house. However, the client wanted the option of printing additional mailers himself on a high-speed color laser printer. So in addition to the full-bleed artwork, I created the desktop-friendly version below, which prints two-up on standard 8 1/2" x 11" stock with a uniform 1/2" margin.
All in all, this was a very enjoyable project that allowed me to help out a friend and fellow small business owner.
